21 Day Challenge

Wow. It has been so long since I have posted. Life has been good, but crazy! We have moved into our new home, had a great summer, met lots of new neighbors, and started off the new school year with a bang.

Now... it is time to get back on track. I have only fit in workouts when I could, and have not eaten like I should. I have put off so many blog posts.

"It takes 21 days to form a habit, good or bad." The next 21 days I am going to get rid of my old habits and form better, healthier ones. I will get in a workout of some sort each day for the next 21 days, and enter a post to check in for accountability.
I am excited and feeling very motivated! Anyone want to join? :)

Things I am looking forward to!
~Indy Womens Half Marathon
~Rebel Series Muddy 5K
~San Fransisco Vacation

Motivational Note:
I do not want to have "losing weight" as one of my 2012 new year's resolutions

Indy Mini Training Program

I am so stoked! Today was our clinic at Tri n Run for the start up of the Indy Mini Training program. I talk about the program itself in a post here. It is just what I needed, I have really been lacking motivation to say the least.

I have to say, I love our local running s
tore and their owners. They give you personalized care that you won't find elsewhere. They offer free foot/gait analysis. There is an in-store treadmill to run on while they observe your (terrible) form. I just love them. I love them even more for hosting this program. It is great to bring fitness to our community any way we can.

Day one of training is 2/11. Our first group r
un is 2/19. I am so excited to meet new friends and local runners. Bonus.. the group runs begin at the trail across from our house. Score!

A few great tips from T
ravis (owner):
~Do ab work, lots of it. It is not only your legs that do the work, your core needs to be just as strong. Abs recover in 24 hours, so work on them everyday.
~Layers. Make sure to be prepared for whatever this crazy Indiana weather brings. Don't wear cotton...ever.
~Hydrate.Hydrate.Hydrate. Enough said.
~Mondays are core day/ Wednesdays are cross tr
aining days. Cross training da
ys are just as important. Some good ways to x-train are spin class/water jogging/bodypump....
~It was brought up about treadmill vs outdoors running. I guess there is a conversion out there regarding the comparison in distance/difference b
etween the two. I know, myself, I can run better on the treadmill. I think it is more of a mental game for me. The treadmill just keeps pushing me because it just keeps going at a steady pace, where as outdoors I have to mentally keep myself going at a good, steady pace. That is one thing I know this program will help me with is pacing myself better. If you are interested in how you are lining up on the treadmill vs. outdoors running, check out this site, either way at least you are running.

Let's hit the road : ) Anyone else doing a training program/group runs for any upcoming races? Do you like your group runs or are you a loner?

Happy Running!

MIA/Chinese New Year

So, I have been MIA the last couple of weeks. Talk about piling any and all kinds of stress and sickness into the last 2 weeks. In my last post I had high hopes of participating in babyweightmyfatass's virtual 5k, and it didn't so much happen.(anyone know of any virtual 5ks for February?) Arggg. I am here by now declaring the end of the craziness, stress and sickness in our family, I have had it. I am ready to hit the pavement (preferably with no ice/now/snirt). Tomorrow is the 1st day of my training schedule/group run for the Indy Mini in May :) Excited to get out of this rut and pack on the miles.

I didn't get to post yesterday, but it was the Chinese New Year. So, happy new year :) 2011 is the year of the Rabbit. If your New Year's resolutions are already losing their zeal, here is your chance for a fresh start to the new year. Happy New Year!!

Ok, so moving on. I just ordered this shirt today. LOVE it.

Virtual 5K

I can't believe we are in the last week of January! I have a couple of things on my January To Do list that I still need to complete. So this week is going to be busy. One of my goals is to run 5K in sub 30. I am so, so close. I think I found the perfect motivation to get me there.

Babyweightmyfatass is hosting a virtual 5K for January. Go to her site to check it out. I think that is just the push I need. I always run better when I am in a race/competition. Beings as it is January, there aren't too many (read: none) 5k's around right now. So, today I am going to participate in this virtual 5K, in hopes of 30 or below. I am going to run it at the gym. It is simply too cold out today. It is 1 degree... ouch!

Enjoy the lst week of January. That means we are a month closer to SPRING!!

Spring Training

Starting in 2 weeks it is official spring training for several half marathons I am running. I have a big spring line up this year. May is an especially busy month. The local running store, Tri-n-Run (cute name) is hosting a training program for the Indianapolis Mini Marathon. The Indy Mini is May 7, and is my first half marathon this year. I ran it last year, and LOVED it! The program that Tri-n-Run is hosting includes: weekly running schedules, strength training and cross training at Club Newtone, Saturday group runs, personalized shoe fitting, our own post race tent, allat a low cost of $40. I am excited to see their training schedule compared to the one I use. The program starts in 2 weeks, the beginning of February. I am looking forward to making it to some of the group runs, to meet some more local runners.

So here is my Spring Line Up, fall looks just as busy, if not more. I am super excited to see what 2011 brings. I'm hoping it brings a couple new PRs :)

1/22 Bop to the Top~ a 37 flight stair race
4/9 Swamp Stomp~ a 4 mile trail run
5/1 Flying Pig Marathon~ a 4 person relay, my leg is 7.67 miles Road Trip with the Girlz!!
5/7 Indianpolis Mini Marathon~ a 13.1 mile race, including one lap around the Indy 500 track
5/21 Geist Half Marathon~ a 13.1 mile race, ending on the Geist Reservoir
6/11 Tour de Cure~ a century ride, including laps around the Indy 500 Motor Speedway

Personal Goals for the Spring
~ Run a Half Marathon in sub 2. This will most likely be the Indy Mini. It is the flattest course that I am running this year.
~Run my leg of the marathon relay (7.67 miles) in 1:10
~Stick to my training schedule, don't over do or under do

I am looking forward to warmer runs, without 10 layers of running clothes. What are your plans for the spring? Happy running :)

Tae Kwon Do

My son (age 7) and I started taking a tae kwon do class taught by a master. When I joined, I thought that my part was basically to learn the forms to help Jacob at home with them. I have to say I have gotten a lot out of the classes already. First of all it is great for self confidence and discipline. I really do get a good workout in, one hour of moderate cardio. I would say it is the best cross training between my runs that I have ever done. Jacob is absolutely loving it, and loving participating with me.

Polar Heart Rate Monitor

I had a gift card to use that I received from the physicians I work for. I immediately new what I wanted to spend it on... a heart rate monitor. After a lot of research on the internet, I decided which one I wanted and ventured out to get ittonight. I waited to do my workout this evening with it, went to set it up, looks really simple. The instructions read, to activate press ok button 2 times, and guess what... I pressed the ok button 2 times, and nothing. And I repeated tha
t umpteen million times, and nothing. Arggg. I was so frustrated. So, tomorrow I go in to return/exchange it. I was so excited for my workout with it, and bam the excitement was all gone. What did people ever do before all these fancy gadgets to workout with?
